Abstract Design around process from the technology of core patents which could avoid patent barriers from the source was proposed. The target patent data was obtained by patent research,then the group of core patents was determined using citation analysis for the patent. The scope of patent design around was determined by establishing the system structure trees and function trees and building module-function table. Components and their functions were analyzed to determine function type and functional level of component, then a new program was obtained via TRIZ and infringement. Finally, automobile engine piston pin press pin device was used as an example to verify the feasibility of the process.
